A Multidisciplinary Journey

Sara Benouar is a versatile researcher with a keen eye for detail and a comprehensive background in biomedical engineering. Sara specializes in Impedance cardiography ICG, machine learning, signal processing, and process mining in healthcare. Her educational foundation extends further, encompassing Electrical Engineering and Electronics Systems Instrumentation. This diverse background equips her with a holistic perspective that enriches her research pursuits in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Healthcare.

In the past two years, Sara has been actively engaged in research and teaching roles at the Clintec Department (Clinical Science, Intervention, and Technology) at Karolinska Institutet. Her work was in national and international projects closely intertwined with esteemed institutions such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Karolinska University Hospital. As well as collaborating with more than 10 European partners comprising hospitals, universities, corporations, and organizations. This collaborative environment enriches her experience by infusing it with a broad array of perspectives.

The projects details can be found in the following links:

Sara is fueled by an unrelenting passion for unraveling innovative solutions to complex challenges. Colleagues characterize her work style as ethical, self-driven, dedicated, curious, intelligent, and goal-oriented. These qualities shape her research endeavors, ensuring every project is approached rigorously and creatively.

In addition to her research pursuits, Sara is fluent in four languages: Algerian Darija, Arabic, French, and English. Her commitment to continuous growth is exemplified by her ongoing journey to learn a fifth language, Swedish.

Current research work

Sara Benouar is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Computing Science at Umeå University with Dr. Helena Lindgren (umu.se) and her research group Interactive and Intelligent Systems (umu.se)

Sara Benouar is exploring Human-AI Dialogues for Causal Reasoning and Collaborative Storytelling in Health Improvement.  Her research focuses on the dynamic interplay between humans and AI, harnessing the power of causal reasoning and interactive storytelling in micro-dialogues that revolve around past, present, and future "what-if" scenarios. This fascinating endeavor takes place within the context of behavior modification for enhanced health outcomes, with the incorporation of the innovative concept of a Digital Twin.
