I take up the position of UmArts WASP-HS Art and AI Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Umeå Institute of Design, after completing my PhD work 'Expressive Entities: An Exploration and Critical Reflection on Poetic Engagements with Technology' at the School of Engineering Technology, University of Twente, The Netherlands. My design practice is based on an integrated background: Fine Art (MFA), and Digital Art (MFA) & Human-Computer Interaction (MS). This cross-disciplinary asset offers a unique perspective on designing human-technology relations through expressive aesthetics, emphasizing a humanistic approach.
I create new ideas on poetic experiences, pursuing interactive, imaginative, and reflective engagements with technology through meaningful bodily interactions in everyday life. In particular, my research in Umeå investigates the poetic embodiments of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning by accommodating delicate human values omitted from generic algorithms and vast data sets of AI machines. The practice aims to manifest experimental design ideas into new aesthetic interactions, by defamiliarizing how we engage with daily life, re-imagining alternative design scenarios, and re-connecting ordinary artifacts to poetic experiences. This will be achieved through practice-driven research with a hybrid approach that combines traditional craftsmanship, digital manufacturing, and physical computing, integrating the theoretical principles of art, technology, and design research.
