Michael Lukaszuk is a UmArts Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Media Arts at the Department of Creative Studies and the Department of Informatics. He is an electroacoustic music composer, media artist and researcher working with algorithmic/generative approaches, spatial audio and and multimedia improvisation. His artistic research explores algorithmic media in culture and how emerging digital music technologies fit within ideas about liveness in modern music.
His music and research have been presented at multiple years of the International Computer Music Conference, ISEA (International Symposium on Electronic Art), SEAMUS (Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States), the Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium, the Australasian Computer Music Festival, and New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival events. His writings on electroacoustic music can be found in publications such as Emille (the Korean Electroacoustic Music Society), Chroma (Australasian Computer Music Association), and eContact! (Canadian Electroacoustic Community). He won 1st prize in the Hugh Le Caine Awards - (electroacoustic music category) of the SOCAN Foundation Young Composer Awards and 3rd prize in the JTTP (Jeu de Temps) awards of the Canadian Electroacoustic Community. He holds a DMA in Composition from The University of Cincinnat, College-Conservatory of Music and a PhD in Cultural Studies from Queen's University (Kingston, Canada).
