My research is on arctic aquatic ecosystems that are especially at risk of accumulating high concentrations of metals due to mining activities. The most widely used biomonitoring tools in Sweden are developed for other anthropogenic disturbances and often fail to capture the environmental impact of mining. Throughout my research, I will test, adapt, and expand on currently available parameters to develop indices that are sensitive to mining impacts on arctic aquatic systems. Moreover, my research is affiliated with the Arctic Graduate School, where there is a strong emphasis on sustainability in the Arctic. As such, the aim of my research is to develop reliable environmental guidelines that can promote more sustainable mining. My main supervisor is Åsa Berglund and co-supervisors are Christian Bigler and Ryan Sponseller.
