Professor in Virology. Research mainly on zoonotic viruses and work with studying how they infect and develop antiviral drugs
I am professor in Virology and lead a research group in virology. We mainly perform research on viruses that are transmitted from animals or mosquitoes, so-called zoonotic viruses. Many of these viruses are on the WHO list of infectious diseases that can cause future pandemics. We focus on investigating how these viruses are transmitted, what animal reservoirs they have, which mosquito species have the ability to transmit these viruses and how they cause disease. In addition, we are developing antiviral drugs against these viruses.
My research career began with a doctoral degree at Umeå University with Professor Göran Wadell (Umu) as supervisor. My dissertation focused on the detection of papillomavirus in cervical cancer and involved i.a. collaboration with Harald zur Hausen, who later became a Nobel laureate.
