I am an Associate Professor and a Researcher/Deputy Director at Várdduo and the Co-Director for FADC. My research interests include conflicts between extractive industries and Indigenous peoples.
I am an Associate Professor of Sámi Studies and a Research Fellow at Várdduo - Center for Sami Research in the project Damage Done: Indigenous experience of and recommendations for energy production, which started in December 2019. Since December 2021 I am leading the project Lateral violence: Effects of external pressures on Indigenous and local communities. I have previously been a postdoctoral fellow at Várdduo. In previous research I examined conflicts and power relations between Indigenous peoples and extractive industries/majority societies and used the concept of Extractive Violence to describe how extractivism can affect Indigenous communities. My research interests include: asymmetric conflicts and power relations between Indigenous peoples and extractive industries/majority societies; cultural, structural, extractive and lateral violence and its impact on Indigenous and local communities; theory, method and ethics in Indigenous research; as well as connections between people and land. I have done extensive international work, especially in Australia, and am active in several international networks, including ENTAN (European Non-Territorial Autonomy Network) and MinErAl (Knowledge Network on Mining Encounters and Indigenous Sustainable Livelihoods).
Since July 2018 I am the Co-Director for the Faculty of Arts Doctoral College (FADC).
Since June 2022 I am the Deputy Director for Várdduo - Centre for Sámi Research.
I also teach as much as time allows.
