Director of the Arctic Centre at Umeå University, Coordinator of the Climate Impacts Research Centre, and transdisciplinary ecologist studying how environmental change impacts Arctic ecosystems.
I am an transdisciplinary ecologist with almost 30 years experience conducting environmental monitoring and research from the Arctic to the tropics. Today I am the Director of the Arctic Centre and Coordinate the Climate Impacts Research Centre at Umeå University. A thread to all of my research is to put it into a regional or global context for the public and whenever possible to engage the public directly in the science.
My research focuses on how the lives of arctic and alpine species are shaped by the environment and human activities. I use citizen science as a method and opportunity for public engagment in science. i regularly give public presentations and create venues for dialogue about climate an environmental change.
As the Director of the Arctic Centre my aim is to create a strong research environment that is built on the principals of inclusivity where inter- and transdisciplinary research are the norm. The Centre build horizontal connections between Umeå University researchers and vertical networks with international collaborations, including The Arctic Five, University of the Arctic, and the European Polar Board.
