Juan Carlos Nieves Sánchez is an associate professor (Docent) and a senior researcher (in Theoretical Foundations of Artificial Intelligence). He is Programme Director of the MSc programme in Artificial Intelligence. Member of the council for Doctoral Education in Computer Science at UMU. He has been serving as an external (Ethical) advisor/reviewer in different EU projects. He has also served as an expert reviewer for different European national research councils.
He has been an active contributor to the international scientific community through his participation in research projects (EU-ASPIC FP6, EU-ALIVE FP7, EU-Regional Parkinetics, National-Spanish ENERGOS, EU-Regional NTC, EU COST DigForASP, AI4EU, Erasmus Plus Trustworthy AI, etc.), organization of international tutorials, organization of international workshops, research visits, as a reviewer of journal contributions, guest editor of special and thematic issues in international journals. He is the UMU representative at the International AI Doctoral Academy (AIDA) project and TAILOR network.
During the last years, he has been particularly interested in how theories on human decision-making and human activity can be translated into formal computational theories that may enhance the social adaptability of intelligent systems.
