Hanna Vikström

I am an interdisciplinary researcher working on resource history, coming from the natural sciences background with a Ph.D. in history of science, technology and environment. My reserach is inspired by different fields including history of technology, environmental history, science and technology studies, political ecology and gender studies. 

My current postdoc project focuses on combing resource history with history of technology and dental hsitory through dental materials. I am exploring questins such as why were gold, amalgam, tin and zinc used as filling materials in the 19th century? How did dentists circulate knowledge at the time? Why were certain practices established?

My main focus has been resource history, in my Ph.D. thesis  I explored metals scarcity and how state and business actors have experienced shortages and how they have coped with it in the 20th century. More specifically I am interested in resource flows connecting the global north and the global south through different commodities, and how and why such flows became established.
