Elin studied the medical programme at Umeå university and proceeded directly into her current position as a PhD student in virology. During the medical programme she was part of the “Research aspirant” programme, providing the opportunity to work in research in parallel with her medical studies, in the same research group where she is now pursuing her PhD. Her research focused on receptor identification and host interactions of the human enteric adenoviruses type F40 and F41. In 2020 Elin obtained a position combining clinical internship with research, a position which she finished in spring of 2023.

Elin is working in Niklas Arnberg lab at the department of clinical microbiology, and her current research is focused on enteric viruses. Using novel and advanced models such as human intestinal organoids, Elin studies viral attachment and entry of adenoviruses and norovirus in presence of host factors to elucidate the highly complex mechanisms of viral host interactions in order to gain important insights for further vaccine and antiviral development.
