My research is about developing new strategies for the assessment and management of extrapulmonary manifestations among people with COPD.
Research
Group leader of Umeå Translational Respiratory EXercise group (U-TREX), a multidisciplinary research group focusing on patient-related research among people with respiratory diseases. Our front-line concerns translational research focused on the effects and explanatory mechanisms of different forms of physical exercise among people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, specifically regarding various extrapulmonary manifestations such as impaired muscle, cardiovascular, and cognitive function.
Together with an international and multidisciplinary research network, our research aims, among other things, to develop new, clinically relevant strategies to assess muscle function in clinical activities among people with COPD. We investigate, among other things, the reliability, validity, and feasibility of different strategies for assessing thigh muscle function in COPD.
We also develop new treatment strategies for people with COPD, focusing on optimizing the effect of different types of physical exercise in COPD and implementing physical training at different intensities. This is to enable both greater effects for the individual with COPD and to increase the proportion of people who respond to this type of treatment. This is done by combining both in-vivo and in-vitro experiments and studies and using both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Overview
Been teaching undergraduate and master's training for physiotherapists and occupational therapists, mainly in physiology and anatomy since 2011, senior lecturer in 2016, and qualified as a recognized university teacher in 2021. I am responsible for the course Physiotherapy - clinical evaluation and measurement methodology- and performing separate lectures on Master and Research levels.
