WELCOME TO THE COURSE

Public Health Nutrition for a Changing World

Congratulations! We are pleased to inform that have been admitted to the course Public Health Nutrition for a Changing World, 7,5 credits at Umeå University. My name is Armando Pérez-Cueto and I am the course coordinator. You will meet me at the course start and as a teacher during some parts of the course. On this page you will find important information that will be useful, so please read through it carefully. If you have any questions, you can use the contact form below.

How to start

  • 1. Your offer

You have been admitted. If you want to keep your place (seat), you do not have to reply to your offer.

If you do not want to keep your place you should decline your offer by logging in to 'My pages' on universityadmissions.se, and follow the instructions. You should click "I wish to decline this offer" next to the course or programme you want to decline.

If you see "Reserve" next to your course or programme in the Notification of selection results, this means that you've been placed on a waiting list for that course/programme.

    Support for students with disabilities

If you are in need of special support due to disability, you should apply for that in good time before you start your studies. Find more information about support for studying with disabilities.

  • 2. Activate your user account and MFA

As a new student, you need to activate your user account (your Umu-id) approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

With your user account you can:

    • register for courses
    • access the internet in computer labs and the university's wireless network
    • submit assignments and verify your study results
    • access your student e-mail

If you are a new student, you will automatically receive a user account when you are admitted, but you will need to activate it for it to function properly. You will not be able to activate it until approximately two weeks prior to the start of the semester.

Install MFA for a more secure login
To increase security and reduce the risk of unauthorised access to your information or account, students must enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) to log in to various systems, such as Canvas and the Student Web.

I want to activate my user account and install MFA

Exchange student or tuition fee paying student

If you are an exchange student or tuition fee paying student, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your account.

    Help! It´s not working

If you are having problems activating your account or logging in, please contact our Servicedesk. You will find answers to common questions, and can submit enquiries.

Online registration is open between 25/10/2024 and 04/11/2024. If you do not register by 04 - november at the latest, you risk losing your place.

About the course

  • Course Information

The course is a hybrid campus/online course where students work individually and in groups, to solve given public health nutrition problems. Problem-based-learning approach is used throughout the course. The skills for conducting a systematic review for providing evidence to policy makers will be key. The course will focus on how healthy eating can be achieved in case of disruptions in food availability resulting from climate change.

The course is divided in three parts, each corresponding to a 2,5 HE Credits effort. Attendance to group work and seminars is mandatory, as you will be evaluated both individually and through group assignments. Group work presentations are examens with each group presenting with an opponent group, where both, the presentation and the discussion are considered as part of the exam.

In the time periods between the meetings you will find everything you need regarding the course in the learning platform Canvas. You can also discuss things with your instructor and classmates there. It is recommended that you contact the course coordinator via email    armando.perez@umu.se for any inquiries regarding the course or issues that would arise that require quick response.

    Meetings via Zoom
In this course, we often use Zoom as a digital tool for online teaching and meetings. Here is a guide to the most common functions in Zoom. As a student you create an account and log in with your Umu-id.
