Welcome to the course Management Information Systems (2IN195), and - for some of you – the IT Management programme here at Umeå university!
This 15-credit course provides an overview of how organizations use IT in their operations and how imagined performance improvements can be realized. The focus of the course is on digital transformation, which requires an understanding of
1) what the organization is trying to achieve,
2) what IT can do, and
3) how IT can be used to facilitate or enable what the organization is trying to achieve.
The course starts on August 28th, 2023 and runs until October 30st. We will utilize the Canvas online teaching platform to post relevant material and administrate the course.
In the course, we will primarily utilize “Guiding the Digital Transformation of Organizations” (2nd ed.) by Sambamurthy & Zmud (2017). This book is available to read via the university library website once you have been registered as a student at the university. Additional material will be provided via Canvas.
Course introduction will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 28th in room MIT.C.413. You will find room MIT.C.413 on the top floor of the MIT-building.
Please note that lectures will be held on campus. We do not provide hybrid/online teaching via Zoom, Teams or similar web conferencing tools.
Warm regards,
Ted Saarikko, Johan Sandberg, Malaika Torto, and Mathias Karlsson
