The course aims to further develop skills and knowledge in spatial analysis. Both descriptive and analytical quantitative approaches are dealt with. The spatial analysis perspective includes geographical information data management and geographical information systems (GIS) as well as forecasting and simulation techniques of various development processes. The course also involves further developed skills in the visualization and analysis of spatial dynamics and regional data.
Förväntade studieresultat
After completing the course the student should be able to
independently conduct regional analyses and to present these in maps as well as in written reports,
understand dynamic spatial systems and causal relationships,
analyze regional spatial interrelationships,
handle visualization techniques where maps, texts and other types of illustrations are utilized.
Behörighetskrav
Univ: 120 ECTS, 60 ECTS of which in a major field of subject, including 7,5 ECTS in quantitative methods, or equivalent.
Basic requirements for university studies in English equivalent to English A from Swedish Upper Secondary School.
Undervisningens upplägg
The teaching during the course is mainly based on a combination of lectures, assignments and seminars. A substantial part of the teaching is given as supervised group exercises in the computer laboratory or as individual supervision. There will also be guest lectures and/or educational visits. Relevant gender aspects will be dealt with during the course. The teaching is in English.
Examination
The course is examined by compulsory assignments to be presented at seminars and in written reports. The assignments and the whole course are graded according to the scale Pass with distinction (VG), Pass (G) and Fail (U).
Examination based on the same syllabus as at the ordinary examination is guaranteed during two years after the first registration to the course.
When a student has failed an examination on two occasions, he or she has a right to have another grading teacher. A written request for an alternative examiner should be handed in to the director of studies.
ACADEMIC CREDIT TRANSFER
Credit transfer is always examined individually.
