Jonas Lindahl har beviljats forskningsmedel från Lärarhögskolan inom det utbildningsvetenskapliga området. Projektet kommer att pågå i två år och handla om effekten av föräldraskap bland kvinnliga och manliga doktorander i Sverige. Projektets titel är "The effect of parenthood on male and female doctoral students´ academic socialization, thesis writing, and research performance: A comparative study in a Swedish setting".
Vad är det tänkt att du ska forska på?
The project take departure in some of the results in my thesis and focuses on the effect of parenthood on different aspects of doctoral students’ academic socialization and performance, with a focus on differences between women and men.

Varför är det ett viktigt ämne att forska på?
Previous research has shown that differences in academic socialization and performance can be observed between men and women already during doctoral education. Since science and academia is a meritocratic system, it is important to examine observed differences between men and women in order to identify and address potential biases and disadvantages. In my thesis the results suggest that productivity differences between male and female doctoral students can be explained by factors related to academic socialization. A better understanding of how parenthood-related stuff affects academic socialization and doctoral student outcomes is expected to provide valuable insights in how these differences arise during the doctoral education and how to potentially address them.
Hur ska du samla in material?
The data will be collected through DiVA, a Swedish repository for academic publications, and a short survey.
Vad förväntar du dig för resultat?
My hypothesis is that parenthood has a negative effect on doctoral students’ academic socialization and scientific performance, and that this effect is larger for women than men.
