Short interview with Kiran Aziz, FairTax researcher, lawyer and lecturer in tax law at BI Norwegian Business School
Before starting her career in academia, Kiran Aziz worked as a Lawyer, mainly with cases concerning international tax, at Ernst & Young in Oslo. "I am currently at BI Norwegian Business School where I am lecturing in tax law, and involved in Fair Tax project. I am also cooperating with the World Bank on a project with relation to Tax Responsible Investments and I have several board positions, mainly with focus on human rights and corporate social responsibility."
In FairTax Kiran Aziz is working in Work Package 6, conducting interviews with large corporations in order to finalize the Norwegian national report on cooperative compliance. "The purpose of our research is to give an account of cooperative compliance practices in Norway. It will also be used for comparison with practices in the Nordic countries, UK, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands on selected criteria. The purpose is to learn how the tax administration can be handled in an optimal way. A country like Norway is based on trust and transparent – therefore it's crucial to know what can be done to strength the trust between the tax payers and the tax authorities. We hope the research can increase awareness about cooperative compliance and that maybe Norway can stand out as a good example to follow on certain areas. In additional we aim to see what are the challenges related to cooperative compliance. I think this is a very unique opportunity and I feel very privileged to be part of this project."
