There are many good reasons to attend to the 3rd International Conference of the ESCAN (www.escan2016.eu) in Porto in June, but we highlight the following
1. PROGRAM ESCAN 2016 CONFERENCE
The most up-to-date version of the program is posted on the conference website http://www.escan2016.eu - there are a few small updates going on here and there in the program, but we will keep the document updated.
ESCAN 2016 will host lectures by leading scholars in Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience:
-"The Neuroscience Perspective on Interpersonal Interactions" by Professor Ray Dolan (UCL, UK).
-"From Perception to Pleasure: Music and its Neural Substrates" by Professor Roberto Zatorre (MNI, McGill University, Canada).
-"Literacy in context" by Professor José Morais (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium).
3. AWARDS: ESCAN YOUNG SCIENTIST 2016 AWARD AND STUDENT AWARDS
The ESCAN 2016 conference will host the attribution of the first ESCAN Young Scientist Award (attributed by the ESCAN Board). From the award announcement: "This award honors the early achievements of scientists working in the area of Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience and is meant to encourage the further ascendance of a research star." The award recipient will deliver a talk in Porto.
Additionally there will be four Student Poster Awards (500€ honorarium, sponsored by the ESCAN Board) and one Best Student Abstract Award (fee waiver, sponsored by the Local Organizing Committee). All student poster presenters are eligible, so make sure to bring your best work!
4. ESCAN 2016 AT OSF FOR MEETINGS
We have liaised with the Open Science Framework (https://osf.io) to increase the impact of our conference and allow participants to share their work online in the OSF for Meetings platform (https://osf.io/meetings/), where your work will automatically receive a citable persistent URL. This service is kindly provided for free by the Center for Open Science (https://cos.io) and allows uploading your poster/talk materials, abstract, and additional files to the OSF ESCAN 2016 page (https://osf.io/view/escan2016/).
Instructions (from OSF for Meetings) - How to add your poster or talk:
Send an email to the following address(es) from the email account you would like used on the OSF:
-For posters, email escan2016-poster@osf.io
-For talks, email escan2016-talk@osf.io
The format of the email should be as follows:
-Subject: Presentation title
-Message body: Presentation abstract (if any)
-Attachment: Your presentation file (e.g., PowerPoint, PDF, etc.)
Once sent, we will follow-up by sending you the permanent identifier that others can use to cite your work; you can also login and make changes, such as uploading additional files, to your project at that URL. If you didn’t have an OSF account, one will be created automatically and a link to set your password will be emailed to you; if you do, we will simply create a new project in your account. By creating an account you agree to our Terms and that you have read our Privacy Policy, including our information on Cookie Use.
5. PORTO
We think Porto is a beautiful city, but of course we are biased! However, it is a fact that touristic demand is very high in Porto in summer months, and especially around Saint John’s festivities (which coincide with the conference dates). Many hotels are now starting to become fully booked for the conference period and we recommend ESCAN 2016 participants to book your accommodation as soon as possible!
Also, if you have not yet registered, we suggest doing so quickly -- this is the last day for early bird fees!
