Torfinn Huvunes: A Puzzle about Causation and Impure Sets

Högre seminariet i filosofi bjuder in till seminarium med Torfinn Huvunes, Bergen. Seminariet har den engelska titeln "A Puzzle about Causation and Impure Sets". 

Abstract (på engelska): The talk is based on joint work with Bram Vaassen (Umeå University). The starting point for our discussion is the Modal Thesis. It says that events that have the same modal profile – they occur in the same possible worlds – also have the same causal profile – they cause the same effects. We present a dilemma involving this thesis. On the one hand, there are theoretical reasons to accept the Modal Thesis. On the other hand, the thesis is subject to apparent counterexamples. We identify and discuss various options for resolving this dilemma.
