Högre seminariet i historia och idéhistoria bjuder in till ett extrainsatt seminarium med Liubov Timonina, doktorand vid KTH som gästar institutionen för idé- och samhällsstudier under två veckor. Seminariet har den engelska titeln "Reordering Nature: friluftsliv, women's emancipation and spatial planning in Sweden, 1920-1980".

Beskrivning (på engelska):

This PhD project is a historical inquiry into friluftsliv as a gendered practice, a tool of reordering, modernizing and controlling natures and negotiating embodied emancipation. Taking Folkhemmet as its historical timeframe, the project explicitly focuses on women’s place and role in the development of friluftsliv, on their engagement in the outdoors as users and producers of spaces, and the intersections of women’s rights movement, spatial planning and environmental change. In search for novel conceptualizations of friluftsliv, the project suggests approaching friluftsliv as a space-making project of modernity, an inherent part of the assemblage of infrastructures and welfare landscapes of the Swedish welfare state. In doing so, it seeks to work with new empirical materials and different types of sources for unveiling histories of “the others” in the Swedish outdoors.

The project is part of the Mistra Sports & Outdoors research and collaboration program, theme 1: knowledge and transformation.

Liubov Timonina is a visiting PhD student at the Department of Historical, philosophical and religious studies at Umeå University. She is doing her PhD in environmental history at the Div. of History of Science, Technology and Environment, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Liubov has a MA in Global Studies from the Universities of Leipzig and Ghent, and Specialist Degree in Modern and Contemporary History from Lomonosov Moscow University. For the past few years, she has been working with Arctic histories and representations of Arctic infrastructures. She is also affiliated with The Arctic Institute, where she is one of the co-hosts of the Arctic Bookshelf Podcast, a series of conversations with scholars and experts on knowledge practices and research in and about the Arctic.

Seminariet ges på Engelska.
