Lagerlöf Lab at Umeå University in Sweden is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study the neurobiology of feeding behavior. The position starts in May 2025 or by agreement.

At Umeå University you will experience an attractive and creative academic and research environment that is characterised by excellence, innovation, openness and diversity. We rank among the top universities in the world and are committed to providing our employees with unique opportunities for professional and personal development. More than 2000 researchers and 34 700 students have chosen Umeå University already. You are welcome too!

Project description

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow excited to reveal how the brain regulates food intake. Our group integrates molecular pathways and neuronal circuits in mice with clinical trials in humans suffering from different types of disordered eating. As postdoctoral fellow in our group you will have the opportunity to lead independent research projects uncovering novel mechanisms by which the brain integrates metabolism, emotions and memory to encode mental states such as hunger and satiety. The focus will be to identify neural circuits in mice that can treat anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder leading to dangerously low body weight. We believe in fostering an environment where everyone enjoys the support, freedom and ability to answer the big questions in neuroscience - supporting you to take the next step towards your goals. This is a unique opportunity for using cutting-edge techniques in neuroscience such as monosynaptic neural circuit tracing and in vivo imaging to have clinical impact helping saving the lives of many thousands of people around the world.

Qualifications

We seek people excited about the brain and highly motivated to uncover how it makes us feel, think and behave. Experience of animal behavior, stereotactic virus injection and in vivo imaging in rodents is meritorious. Successful candidates will have a strong record of productivity, and a demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team. Eligible are those that hold a Ph.D. in neuroscience, biochemistry or a related field. Ph.D. students within 3 months of degree certification are encouraged to apply; their degree need to be finalized before acceptance can be given.
