Project description - Investigating the Role of Sphingolipids in Diabetes and Cardiovascular Health
Metabolic dysfunctions associated with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular complications remain critical areas of research. A central focus of our work is to understand how alterations in sphingolipid metabolism contribute to impaired glucose uptake, disrupted insulin signaling, and the progression of atherosclerosis. By investigating these pathways, we aim to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying these conditions and their broader implications for metabolic health.
As a scholarship recipient, you will have the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge studies utilizing mass spectrometry-based lipidomics to explore sphingolipid regulation in diverse biological contexts. These include experimental studies in mouse models as well as human intervention studies, allowing you to investigate fundamental biochemical processes and their clinical relevance.
The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to:
Develop expertise in mass spectrometry-based lipidomics, analyzing lipids in various biological model systems, including human biopsies, mouse tissues, and cell cultures. Innovate and refine methodologies for lipid extraction, mass spectrometry analysis, and multivariate bioinformatics. Investigate the lipid-based mechanisms driving disease progression, with a focus on identifying novel pathways linked to cardiometabolic diseases, particularly type 2 diabetes.
Qualifications
The post-doctoral fellow is required to have completed a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. This qualification requirement must be fulfilled no later than at the time of the decision about scholarship recipient.
Priority should be given to candidates who completed their doctoral degree, according to what is stipulated in the paragraph above, no later than three years prior. If there are special reasons, candidates who completed their doctoral degree before that may also be eligible. Special reasons include absence due to illness, parental leave, appointments of trust in trade union organizations, military service, or similar circumstances, or other forms of appointment/assignment relevant to the subject area.
