Postdoctoral scholarship in preclinical imaging

The Department of Medical and Translational Biology at Umeå University, Sweden, is offering a postdoctoral scholarship within the project of preclinical imaging of neurodegenerative diseases and normal aging. The scholarship is full-time for two years and will start Sep 01, 2024, or by agreement. Application deadline is August 9th 2024.

Description of the project

The Kempe Foundation finances a postdoctoral fellowship within the Sultan Laboratory at the Department of Medical and Translational Biology to work on research projects at SARIF (Small Animal Research Imaging Facility). The research groups consist of preclinical researcher with a focus on non-invasive MRI and PET-based methods to detect brain network fidelity in neurodegenerative diseases and during normal aging.

Work responsibilities

The fellowship involves working with MRI (functional and structural) and PET/CT image data analysis; however, the fellow will be involved in several collaborative projects and encouraged to develop new directions within the projects.

Eligibility

A person who has been awarded a doctorate or a foreign qualification deemed to be the equivalent of a doctorate in either biomedical data analysis (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Computational biology), systems, or computational neuroscience is eligible for appointment as postdoctoral researcher. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time at which the appointment decision is made.

Applicants must have a strong background in statistics and programming skills and hands-on experience with MRI image data analysis and visualization. The successful candidate will be proficient in spoken English and will have a strong background and track record of writing and publishing high-quality scientific articles. Experience working with neuroimaging analysis (MRI and PET), using analysis software such as Matlab, SPM & FSL is strongly preferred. Proficiency with Linux and one or more programming languages (preferred coding ability in Matlab or Python) for the development and application of analytical methods and for establishing and maintaining computational pipelines.

Additional useful qualifications

Since postdoctoral researcher is a career-development position for junior researchers, we are primarily interested in applicants who completed their doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline. If there are special reasons, an applicant who has completed their degree earlier than that may be considered. Special reasons include absence due to illness, parental leave, clinical practice, appointments of trust for a trade union organisation or other similar circumstances, and for relevant duties/assignments within the subject area.

More information about the group's research can be found on our website (www.umu.se/en/staff/fahad-sultan) and via the departmental website (www.umu.se/en/department-of-medical-and-translational-biology).

Application

The application must include:

  • A brief description of your research interests and a statement describing why you are interested in the position.
  • CV
  • List of publications
  • Degree certificate from doctoral studies and other relevant degrees
  • Contact details of two reference persons

Submit your application as a PDF marked with the reference number FS 2.1.6-1122-24, both in the file name and in the subject field of the email, to medel@diarie.umu.se. The application can be written in English or Swedish. Application deadline is August 9th 2024.
