The Department of Epidemiology and Global Health is an international, multidisciplinary research and teaching environment located within Umeå University’s Faculty of Medicine. Founded in 1986, we now have around 80 people from all over the world working in the department, with a shared mission to contribute to equitable and sustainable improvements in health and welfare across the globe.
Description
Equity in health care and the broader health system is an important accelerator for achieving equitable population health. The project “Leaving no one behind: an intersectional population approach for health system equity“ uses emerging equity perspectives that emphasize the interrelations between multiple inequities to examine inequities in the health system. It takes its point of departure in an intersectional conceptual framework and explores novel methodological approaches using survey and register data.
Work tasks
The work will focus on exploring and developing quantitative approaches grounded in intersectionality theory and with application to health system equity within the project ‘Leaving no one behind”. You will be responsible for performing data management, advanced statistical analysis and authoring scientific articles, as well as presenting the results in different contexts, in collaboration with the PI and other researchers.
Qualifications
We are looking for a creative and inventive junior researcher who is curious about the complexity between social theory, advanced methods, and empirical health research.
Required qualifications
Doctorate or a foreign qualification deemed to be the equivalent of a doctorate, in Public Health or a field deemed relevant for the position. This eligibility requirement should be met no later than the starting date of the position.
Advanced skills in quantitative analysis on survey or register data
Programming skills in R and Stata or similar software
Experience of intersectionality-informed health research
Very good written and oral English language skills
Meriting qualifications
Skills in machine learning and/or decision tree analytical methods, is a particularly strong merit
Experience of research focusing on health care or the health system
Experience of authoring and publishing scientific articles
Experience in knowledge transfer of intersectional research
