We are looking for a senior colleague to join the cardiovascular epidemiology research group at the Department of Public Health and Clincial Medicine at Umeå University. If you have postdoctoral qualification in clinical epidemiology, an interest in causal inference, and are looking for a permanent position, do not miss this opportunity.

Description of the project

High blood pressure is the leading cause of cardiovascular disease and death in Sweden and the world today. Recommendations on the treatment and follow-up of hypertension are based almost exclusively on data from middle-aged people. There is no information on optimal blood pressure levels in adolescence, blood pressure patterns during life, and the effects of initiation and discontinuation of treatment of the very elderly. The overall goal of the project is to answer important clinical questions about hypertension using Swedish health registries and the unique population-based studies in northern Sweden. Our results will be able to guide the clinical management of these patients and hopefully stimulate future intervention studies.

More information about the group's research can be found on our Website.

The position is  full-time until further notice.

Work responsibilities

You will work on several different projects in the research group and also act as an advisor to other research groups at the department/Heart Center at Umeå University Hospital. Tasks include planning of new projects,  practical work with data management from application to statistical analysis, interpretation of results and authoring of scientific articles. The position is a senior role where applicants are encouraged to apply for funding, run parts of projects independently and supervise doctoral students and postdocs in clinical epidemiological and statistical methods. There will be room to conduct projects of your own within the framework of existing research infrastructure.

Eligibility

We are looking for a candidate who have completed a PhD in medicine, epidemiology, statistics or related subjects and who have additional postdoctoral qualifications in the form of, for example, a postdoc, work as a senior statistician or supervision of doctoral students.

You should have extensive experience of clinical epidemiological research, preferably in the cardiovascular field. A high degree of scientific independence is a requirement. You should have extensive experience in database management and be a skilled user of one of the common statistical programs, such as STATA or R.

You should have good communication and administrative skills as the project involves many different parties. As a person, you are flexible, curious and you like to work in teams. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

Additional useful qualifications:

  • Experience of research in the cardiovascular field
  • Experience of research based on Nordic registers
  • Experience with statistical methods relevant to the project, such as survival analysis, spline models, longitudinal data analysis, or methods for causal inference

Application

The application must include:

  • A brief description of your research interests and motivation for why you are interested in the position
  • CV
  • Publications
  • Degree certificates from doctoral studies and other relevant degrees
  • Contact information for two reference persons
