The language programme for staff started in the autumn semester of 2024 and is financed with transition funds. The programme will be run as a project for four years and will then guide how Umeå University will organise competence development in Swedish and English for staff in the future.
The project will be implemented in two phases, the first of which will be evaluated in 2026 for a possible revision before the final two years of the pilot project. The aim is for the exploratory pilot to serve as a knowledge base and guidance on how Umeå University as an organisation and as an employer should work strategically to strengthen employees' language skills in Swedish and English. Outside the project as such, research is also conducted on its activities and effects. Publications and results will be made visible on this page.
The project is run by the Human Resources Office in close co-operation with the Department of Language Studies and with Folkuniversitetet region norr as a close partner.
