About UPL

Vision

Our vision is to support, pursue and inspire professional and strategic pedagogical development of higher education based on science and proven experiences.

Goals

Our goal is to have an organisation that:

• actively contributes to vibrant and open pedagogical discussions at the university
• supports Umeå university's teachers in developing their teaching and pedagogical professionalism
• takes part in the development of, and support for, new learning environments in higher education
• can meet the needs that the university has in regards to support and development of e-learning environments
• has flexible working methods in cooperation with other actors within the research and education field

History

To offer professional support for teachers is something Umeå university has prioritised for more than 30 years. From a few enthusiasts that wanted to support their colleagues in their thoughts about teaching and learning to the start of the Educational Developement Centre (UPC) in the end of the 1990's. UPC became a unit with staff and a pedagogical mission stated by the Vice-Chancellor.

We are a unit that is organised under the University library since 2013. In 2013 we were renamed Centre for Educational Development (UPL). At that time we were given more responsibilities regarding support for teachers in the use of digital learning environments as well as supporting the flexible teaching environments taking form across the campus.
