Tak för att du jälpte meig

("Thanks for helping me", spelled very wrong)

Lulu Staaf

My sister and I are fairies.
Even if it’s hard for us to keep our secret, we are the only ones who know, the others don’t believe us. But we belong to a different world, we’re only visiting here.
We’ve borrowed our bodies.

There's a shortage of human bodies where we come from, that’s why we ended up in different families.
That’s why I was born into a boy's body, there weren’t any girl bodies left when it was my turn. No one believes me except my sister.

Each break we‘re searching for stones with holes in them in the schoolyard.
If you look through the hole in such a stone you're supposed to be able to see things other people can’t. Maybe we can find the way back to our first home with the help from one of those, and play with our siblings on the other side.

I am a nerd in need of therapy and I’ve been for most of my life. 2016 - 2019 I tried to sort myself out by making three film projects consisting of self portraits, diaries and homemade, deranged fairytales. I find them really embarrassing, but they meant the world to me and actually helped me.

At the end of 2023 I felt a need to revisit my old work and ideas and this resulted in Adder Stones, a collage of old and new material in which I’ve tried to highlight the dream and fairytale elements of the original projects. This is the main piece of my exhibition Tak för att du jälpte meig in which I’m also going to exhibit paintings, embroideries, masks and dolls that I made in the period 2020 - 2024.
