Searching for stalks covered beneath the snow
I found the reeds standing
despite all that has happened

Resting with eyes closed
for a moment hidden among them
listening to the reeds in the wind

If we close our eyes
we give up

Human hands grasp
break, snap
the reeds on the lake
make them weak
fragile, brittle
turn them into tools
into rope
into something
to hold on to

Tears and sweat in the white snow
The wind and sun touching my face
I become hardened, I become resilient
