Student life: The campus is diverse and offers more than 200 student clubs and organisations in several areas of interest. The university also organises over 400 performances annually. In 2009, a large recreation and sports centre opened, offering a wide range of activities, such as racketball, dance and swimming.

About London

London is located approximately 20 kilometres west of Toronto. The city has about 380,000 inhabitants and is known for its parks and tracks for cycling and hiking. London offers a wide selection of recreation and entertainment, for example: outdoor festivals, hiking, theatre and music.

Nearby London are freshwater beaches situated on the shores of Lake Huron and Lake Erie. The city's location and communications makes it easy to travel to cities close by, like Toronto and Detroit.

Additional costs

As an exchange student, you do not need to pay tuition fees. However, additional costs may incur.


Exchange students are required to pay the fees to Western University. All figures are approximate in Canadian dollars for the 2023-2024 year. For more information on costs and fees, see website

University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP): Approximate Cost: $252 per term (4 months)

Western One Card: Approximate Cost: $35

Bus Pass: All Western students are required to purchase a bus pass. Approximate Cost is $300.

Accommodation

On-campus
Students can apply for on-campus housing. The options are a dormitory-style residences or apartment-style suites and some residences offer a meal plan. Residence accommodation for students on single-term exchange depends on availability.

Off-campus
There are many housing options close to campus. Western University's Off-Campus Housing Office can provide a lists of available housing.

Student grants and loans for studies outside of Sweden

You may be entitled to student grants and loans from CSN when studying abroad.

As the cost of living and accommodation may be higher abroad, you can apply for an extra loan known as an additional loan for studies abroad.

You can also apply for an additional loan to cover additional costs, i.e. travel and insurance costs.
