Everything you need to know about the arrival days for new students starting in the autumn semester 2024.
Many students arrive by train at the East Station (Östra station), within close walking distance to Campus Umeå.

The information regarding keys and housing is for those of you with housing through Umeå University’s Accommodation Service. If you have housing by any other means, contact them for information regarding your key pick up.
When are the recommended arrival days?
Monday 26 August and Tuesday 27 August. Please note that the services vary depending on when during the day you are arriving.
The Accommodation Service will be at Infocenter between 8:00 – 17:00, for you to pick up your keys.
If you are arriving after 17:00, you can either pick up your keys at the airport or have someone pick up your keys for you. If someone else is picking up the keys for you, you need to email housing@umu.se with the name of the person who will be picking up your keys. This person will need to bring their ID with them when they pick up the keys on your behalf.
No matter when you are arriving, please notify us on the Arrival Confirmation Form.

Is there anything I need to do?
Fill out the Arrival Confirmation Form in advance. We create the bus shuttle schedule based upon students’ arrival times. The deadline to answer the form is 11 August.
You must pay your rent in advance. You will not be able to pick up your keys without having paid your rent.
My travel plans have changed
Update the Arrival Confirmation Form with the most up to date information. Your most recent answer will be taken as your arrival time. It is your responsibility to provide correct information. Please be sure to update the form before 11 August, so that we have time to amend the schedules and prepare buses from the airport.
I am arriving by flight
Between 9:00 and 17:00
Student ambassadors will be at the airport and take you to the shuttle buses, which will take you to Infocenter to pick up your keys, and then to your student housing area.
Between 17:00 and 19:30
Head to the information desk at the airport. They will have your keys for you. Please note that this service will only be available if you have provided us with this information on the Arrival Confirmation Form.
There will be a free shuttle bus from the airport to the different student areas for those arriving before 19:30.
After 19:30
If your flight lands later than 19:30 you can pick up your keys at the information desk at the airport. We then recommend that you take a taxi as the local buses do not run as often in the night. Please note that there is no shuttle bus at this time.
Bus pick up from Umeå Airport
Preliminary bus schedule from the airport below. Please note hours are subject to change depending on flight schedule and the number of people (and the amount of baggage) that arrives.
Arranged bus shuttle for Umeå University students from the Airport:
For flights arriving between 9:00 and 10:00,
For flights arriving between 15:00 and 16:00,
For flights arriving 18:00 to 19:30.
Please note that if you are arriving after 19:30, you need to arrange your own transportation, for example taxi.
I am arriving by train
The following service is only available at Umeå Östra Station (Umeå East Station). We recommend you get off the train at that station.
Before 9:00
If you are arriving by train before 9:00, you can either wait for the student ambassador who will be there 9:15, or take the short walk to Infocenter (from Umeå Östra Station).
Between 9:00 and 17:00
A student ambassador will meet you at the train station to take you to Infocenter. Please note that the first student ambassador will be there at 09:15. You will then be able to pick up your keys, and wait for the next shuttle bus to take you to the student housing areas.
After 17:00
Please note, after 17:00 the keys for your accommodation will be taken to Umeå Airport. You'll either need to pick them up there or organise for someone else to pick them up for you.
Use our student app, Goin’, to find someone who can pick up your keys on your behalf. You will then need to email housing@umu.se with their name. The person will need to take their ID with them when picking up your keys.
Please note: When arriving at night by train you will need to find a local bus or taxi to go to your accommodation on your own.
I am arriving by car or bus
During Infocenter's opening hours (8:00-17:00) you can come there to pick up your keys. For directions to Infocenter, please refer to Mazemap. Closest bus stop to Infocenter is Universum.
After 17:00 the keys for your accommodation will be taken to Umeå Airport. You'll either need to pick them up there or organise for someone else to pick them up for you.
Use our student app, Goin’, to find someone who can pick up your keys on your behalf. You will then need to email housing@umu.se with their name. The person will need to take their ID with them when picking up your keys.
I am arriving before or after the recommended arrival days
The earliest date you can pick up your keys is 19 August.
You need to pick up your keys from Infocenter during their opening hours. If you are arriving outside of Infocenter’s opening hours, use our student app, Goin’, to find someone who can pick up your keys on your behalf. You will then need to email housing@umu.se with their name. The person will need to take their ID with them when picking up your keys.
Have you received my rent?
Your rent payment will take a few days to become visible on Pondus (the housing portal). The Accommodation Service will contact you if there are any issues with your payment. There is no need to contact them.
When will I receive my invoice?
The invoice will be sent out in the beginning of July to all those who have signed a contract by then.
If you sign a contract during August or September, you will receive the rent invoice after you have signed the housing contract.
