Arrival Day

 

Many students arrive by train at the East Station (Östra station), within close walking distance to Campus Umeå.

When is the recommended arrival day?

Sunday the 19th of January. Infocenter on Campus Umeå will be open from 11:00 to 18:00. Please see the headers below for information relevant to you if you are arriving outside of these hours.  

If you arrive after 18:00 or with the 17:20 flight, you can either pick up your keys to your housing at the airport or have someone pick up your keys for you. If someone else is picking up your keys for you, you need to email  housing@umu.se with the name of the person who will be picking up your keys. This person will need to bring their ID with them when they pick up the keys on your behalf. 
 
No matter when you will be arriving, please notify us through the Arrival Confirmation Form. 

Please note that these times are preliminary and may be subject to change.  

What services are offered during arrival day?

We will be offering:

• key pick up from Infocenter (daytime) for those of you who have housing through the Accommodation Service;
• key pick up at the Airport in the evening (18:00–24:00) for those of you who have housing through the Accommodation Service;
• a student ambassador at the airport to take you to Infocenter and onwards to your student housing area;
• a bus shuttle from the airport (see schedule below);
• a bus shuttle to the student housing areas from Infocenter in conjunction with flights arriving (daytime);
• a student ambassador to meet you at the train station, Umeå Östra station only (daytime). 

Is there anything I need to do?

Fill out the Arrival Confirmation Form in advance. We create the bus shuttle schedule based upon students’ arrival times. The deadline to answer the form is 9 January.

You must pay your rent in advance. You will not be able to pick up your keys without having paid your rent.  

Be sure to take a screenshot of your contract in case you do not have internet access when you arrive. 

My travel plans have changed

Update the Arrival Confirmation Form with the most up-to-date information. Your most recent answer will be taken as your arrival time. It is your responsibility to provide correct information. Please be sure to update the form before 9 January, so that we have time to amend the schedules and prepare buses from the airport.

I am arriving by flight

Before 11:00 
There is no service offered before 11. Please read the instructions for ‘Between 11 and 17:00’.

Between 11:00 and 17:00 
Student ambassadors will meet you at the airport and take you to the shuttle buses, which will take you to Infocenter to pick up your keys, and then to your student housing area. 

Between 17:00 and 19:30 
Head to the information desk at the airport. They will have your keys for you. Please note that this service will only be available if you have provided us with this information on the Arrival Confirmation Form.

There will be a free shuttle bus from the airport to the different student areas for those arriving before 19:30. 

After 19:30 
If your flight lands later than 19:30, you can pick up your keys at the information desk at the airport. We then recommend that you take a taxi as the local buses do not run as often in the night. Please note that there is no shuttle bus at this time.

Bus pick up from Umeå Airport

Preliminary bus schedule from the airport below. Please note hours are subject to change depending on flight schedule and the number of people (and the amount of baggage) that arrives.

Arranged bus shuttle for Umeå University students from Umeå Airport:

For the flights arriving at 11:10, 16:45, 17:20 and 18:55.  
If these flights are delayed, we will still offer the shuttle bus. 

Please note that if you are arriving after 19:00, you need to arrange your own transportation, for example taxi.

I am arriving by train

The following service is only available at Umeå Östra Station (Umeå East Station). We recommend you get off the train at that station. 

Before 11:00 
If you are arriving by train before 11:00, you can either wait at the train station for Infocenter to open, or head to any open facility nearby.  
 
Between 11:00 and 18:00 
A student ambassador will meet you at the train station to take you to Infocenter. You will then be able to pick up your keys, and wait for the next shuttle bus to take you to the student housing areas. 
 
After 18:00 
Please note, after 18:00, the keys for your accommodation will be taken to Umeå Airport. You will either need to pick them up at the airport or organise for someone else to pick them up for you. 
 
Use our student app, Goin’, to find someone who can pick up your keys on your behalf. You will then need to email housing@umu.se with their name. The person will need to take their ID with them when picking up your keys.  

Please note: When arriving at night by train, you will need to find a local bus or taxi to get to your accommodation on your own.

I am arriving by car or bus

You can go to Infocenter to pick up your keys during their opening hours (11:00–18:00). For directions to Infocenter, please refer to Mazemap. The nearest bus stop to Infocenter is Universum.

After 18:00, the keys for your accommodation will be taken to Umeå Airport. You will either need to pick them up at the airport or organise for someone else to pick them up for you.

Use our student app, Goin’, to find someone who can pick up your keys on your behalf. You will then need to email housing@umu.se with their name. The person will need to take their ID with them when picking up your keys. 

I am arriving before or after the recommended arrival day

The earliest date you can pick up your keys is 19 January, from 11:00, when the Recommended Arrival Day services begin.

If you are arriving before 19 January, you will have to organise your own accommodation.

If you are arriving outside of Infocenter’s opening hours, use our student app, Goin’, to find someone who can pick up the keys on your behalf. You will then need to email housing@umu.se with their name. The person will need to take their ID with them when picking up your keys.

Have you received my rent?

Your rent payment will take a few days to become visible on Pondus (the housing portal). The Accommodation Service will contact you if there are any issues with your payment. There is no need to contact them.

When will I receive my invoice?

The invoice will be sent out in the middle of December to all those who have signed a contract before then.  
 
If you sign a contract during January, you will receive the rent invoice after you have signed the housing contract.
