Exchange places offered by your department or faculty
If you want to go on an exchange within the Nordic region, you should first contact your international contact person or study advisor to see if your faculty or department offers exchange places there. It can either be within a subject-specific collaboration, a so-called Nordplus network, or within Erasmus+.

Places that all students at Umeå University can apply for
If your department or faculty does not offer any exchange places to the Nordic country or university you are interested in, or if you want to study courses outside your major, you are welcome to apply for an exchange via the university-wide network Nordlys or a university-wide exchange place within Erasmus+.
Nordlys - university-wide exchange places in the Nordic region
It is possible to go on exchange in the Nordics via the university-wide network Nordlys, if your department does not offer a place at the university you want to attend. Via Nordlys there is the possibility of exchange at 26 different universities in Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

Erasmus+ - university-wide exchange places
University-wide exchange places in the Nordics via Erasmus+ are available at the University of Lapland in Finland. More information is available in Solemove.
North2north
The exchange programme North2north is a network within the University of the Arctic. Through the exchange programme, you can study at partner universities that are also part of the network. Which universities it is possible to apply to can vary between different academic years.

Find exchange places in Solemove
Solemove is Umeå University's database for exchange agreements, where you can find all universities where there is a possible exchange place.
Do this:
• Go to Solemove.
• Select "Advanced search".
• Under "Your home unit", select your department or faculty to see its agreement.
• Select "International Office" or "Umeå University" to see the university-wide agreements.
• Under "Exchange program", select Nordplus or Erasmus+. Click "search".
How long can you be gone?
Nordplus/Nordlys
Through the exchange places available within the Nordplus/Nordlys exchange programme, you can study in another Nordic or Baltic country for 1–12 months. If you can only study abroad for a shorter period, there is the possibility of a shorter exchange, from 5 working days up to a month, through so-called express mobility.
Erasmus+
If you go on an exchange within Erasmus+, you study full-time at a university in another European country, for a period of 3–12 months.
You can get a scholarship for studies or internships within Erasmus+ for a total of 12 months at the respective bachelor's, master's and doctoral level.
North2north
Through the exchange programme North2north, you study full-time at one of the University of the Arctic's partner universities for one semester.
Scholarship
Opportunity for scholarship and travel allowance
If you get an exchange place within the Nordic countries, there is the possibility to apply for a scholarship and travel grant for your exchange studies. This applies regardless of whether you received a subject-specific exchange place via your faculty or department or a university-wide exchange place.

When should you apply?
Exchange places via your department - often January to March
The application deadline for exchange studies within Erasmus+ or Nordplus is often sometime in January–March, but it varies between departments.
Information about which dates apply to you can be found further down on this page, if your department or faculty has posted such. You can also contact your international contact person or study advisor to find out when the application opens and closes.
University-wide places
All places within the Nordic region except North2north: between 1 February and 1 March for the coming academic year.
Exchange places via North2north: between 15 December and 15 January for the coming academic year.
