In my PhD project, I explore the transformative impact of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies on operational agility within the real estate sector, aiming to delineate how data-driven capabilities can enhance organizational efficiency and sustainability. The project leverages a qualitative case study methodology, focusing on a leading commercial real estate firm's journey towards becoming a data-driven organization (DDO) through the strategic implementation of IoT. This research contributes to the broader discourse on digital transformation by offering insights into the practical challenges and opportunities faced by real estate companies in leveraging big data for competitive advantage. It also aims to develop a comprehensive framework for understanding and fostering data-driven innovation in the context of the built environment, with a particular emphasis on the role of customer behavior and the integration of IoT platforms for enhanced decision-making and value creation.
