Peter Sundström is professor and consultant in neurology. The thesis (2003) was on multiple sclerosis epidemiology and included a study on presymptomatic biobank samples. Studies of biomarkers for MS environmental risk factors in increasingly large materials with samples collected before symptom onset have since been the main research line. The focus in scientific papers has been on the etiological link to Epstein-Barr virus and vitamin D. PS has had national commitments for the Research Council, the Medical Products Agency and for the National Board of Health and Welfare. He was the chairman of the Swedish MS association (SMSS) 2007- 2009, and was between 2000-2018 the editor of Metodboken, which contains national guidelines for MS care and is available at SMSS homepage (www.mssallskapet.se). Chair of SMSS research board since 2017.
