Our research focus on evolution of cells, organisms and entire ecosystems. We follow changes in these with the aid of DNA sequencing and computationally intensive data analysis methods.
In one project, we follow changes in abundance of all types of organisms (viruses, bacteria, fungi, plants and animals) over decades in swedish ecosystems using weekly air samples and DNA sequencing. These data can be used to study how climate, weather and land-use influence different organisms. The same data can also be used for focused studies of seasonal variations and for making predictions of future abundance of individual species, such as various pests that cause damage to agriculture and forestry.
