My background is in behavioural ecology of bats, specialising in the bats of riparian, lentic and urban habitats. I have particular interests in roosting ecology, parasitology and landscape use. I have worked extensively in urban canal systems and in karst landscapes, having done research in the UK, Ecuador, Poland, Croatia, and Brunei. I’m currently a Postdoc here at Umeå working on the Riparianet project (a Biodiversa+ project), in which we are examining multiple aspects of riparian catchment areas (including bats) all over Europe. The project will involve lots of freshwater sampling and acoustic monitoring in river catchments of boreal, continental, Alpine, Mediterranean, and Atlantic biogeographic zones. For me, the most exciting part of the project will include acoustic monitoring of bats, followed by catching bats in each area to sample their guano and ectoparasites to test them for pesticide levels.
