Mitul completed his PhD from Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), India. During his doctoral studies, he identified potent novel anti-cancer inhibitors against Deubiquitinating enzyme, USP7 using computational drug discovery and computational chemistry. Before joining Umeå University, he was a Junior Research Scientist at THSTI, India where he focused on the application of computational methods to understand the structure and dynamics of biomolecules, with a specific emphasis on drug-target interactions.

To explore biological systems, his research integrates computational chemistry approaches such as: homology modeling, molecular docking, classical molecular dynamics simulation and advanced molecular dynamics, enhanced sampling methods, essential dynamics, thermodynamics studies and small-molecule dissociation studies.

Currently, Mitul is a postdoctoral fellow (Kempestiftelserna) in Anna Linusson’s group at the Department of Chemistry, Umeå University. His current research involves establishing the role of evolutionary conserved lysine methyltransferases (KMTs) in modulating the critical components of epigenetic regulation, further exploring their intricate structural-functional-dynamical relationship. Moreover, he is intended to apply computational drug discovery to identify the substrate specific modulators.
