Marta Nieckarz is a postdoctor in Felipe Cava's group focusing on cell wall biology and environmental adaptation strategies of pathogens capable of residing inside eukaryotic cells.
Marta Nieckarz earned her BSc in Biotechnology and MSc in Medical Biotechnology at the University of Warsaw in Poland. She completed her PhD in Biology at the same institution in 2018. Her research explored the function of the transcription regulator OmpR in the modulation of the outer membrane proteome of Yersinia enterocolitica.
Her scientific interests are interdisciplinary, encompassing various topics such as mobile genetic elements, psychrophilic microorganisms, and the molecular mechanisms involved in bacterial adaptation.
In her ongoing project, as postdoc in Felipe Cava lab, Marta Nieckarz is investigating the genetic determinants involved in peptidoglycan biogenesis and remodeling in a facultative intracellular bacterium Salmonella Typhimurium. This research aims to enhance our understanding of cell wall biology and the environmental adaptation strategies of pathogens capable of residing inside eukaryotic cells.
