I am Docent in Reproductive and Perinatal Health, and work as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Nursing, Umeå University. I am also the Program Director of the Midwifery education.
As a registered nurse I worked 10 years within emergency and surgical wards. Since 1990 I have worked as a midwife in in-patient and out-patient health services. I was deputy Senior Lecturer in 2010-2011. During 2011 – 2014, I held a position as Senior Lecturer with 50% research time at Dalarna University. Since August, 2014 I have a position as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Nursing, Umeå University. I have also experience of international teaching of midwifery teachers in Bangladesh in 2018.
In December 2009, I defended my doctoral thesis addressing gestational diabetes mellitus from the perspective of pregnant women, midwives and obstetricians at the Department of Clinical Science, Umeå University. Since then, my continued research mainly addresses topics involving women’s health using qualitative and quantitative methods for the research questions.
I am the main supervisor of one doctoral student and assistant supervisor of two students. I have been assistant supervisor of two PhD students who defended their theses in 2016 and have served as co-supervisor of three qualitative papers in two doctoral projects. My experience covers national and international data collections.
I still perform some research within the field of gestational diabetes mellitus, however in minor extent at the moment.
SWE-TEAR: In this collaboration between researchers at Umeå and Linköping universities we use register data to study women’s health and wellbeing after perineal tears up to one year after childbirth.
OASIS Policies: A collaboration with researchers at Umeå School of Gender Studies, where policies for severe perineal tears at childbirth are explored. Further, affected women’s experiences of wellbeing, sexual life and work capacity 18 months to 5 years after the childbirth are explored in a project. I am the main supervisor of a PhD student in this project.
Women’s health, wellbeing and lifestyle after bariatric surgery: In this research I collaborate with researchers at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm and I am assistant supervisor of a PhD student.
Childhood obesity – prevention and web-based treatment interventions: This project is a collaboration with researchers at Department of Clinical Science, Umeå University and aim to explore the effect of web-based treatment of overweight/obese children. I am assistant supervisor of a PhD student in this project.
I predominantly teach different courses within the midwifery programme, but also in other programs at advanced level. For several years I have been a member of the Bachelor thesis evaluation committee which includes reviewing and assessing large numbers of students’ theses each semester. Further, I’m a member of the Program board at the department since 2015. Since 2023, I act as Program Director fo the Midwifery Education and courses within Sexual and Reproductive Health.
