Jyoti is IceLab Postdoc in Laura Carroll’s group. She is developing high-throughput, single-cell metagenomic sequencing methods, to be used to resolve the oral microbiome at the single-cell level.
Jyoti completed her PhD from Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad in India. During her doctoral research, she worked in the field of antimicrobial resistance in human commensals and enteric bacterial pathogens. Furthermore, she continued her research at THSTI and was involved in the investigational study for the determination of microbial community in the vaginal microbiome of pregnant Indian women. Before joining Umeå University, she was a Research Scientist at Functional Genomics Laboratory, THSTI, India. Her research goal was to establish proof of principle for microbiome-based interventions in Inflammatory bowel disease and Preterm birth.
Currently, Jyoti is a postdoctoral fellow (Kempestiftelserna) in Laura Carroll lab at the Department of Clinical Microbiology in Umeå University. Her current research is about the single-cell metagenomic sequencing to resolve the microbial communities at the strain level. In order to understand why some people develop chronic oral infections while others do not, she will be prototyping a high-throughput method to reconstruct complete microbial genomes from clinical oral microbiome samples collected from a cohort of Swedish patients.
