My resesarch focuses on carbon cycling in alpine-arctic and boreal lakes. I am specifically interested in how carbon dioxide and methane emissions relate to one another via primary production and the chemical properties of lake sediments. Worldwide increasing temperatures and eutrophication are causing changing patterns in lake primary productivity, potentially changing lake chemistry to be more favourable to methane production. Lakes at higher latitudes are interesting because of their unique environments and because they will be subject to great changes, which may lead to interesting dynamics between methane and carbon dioxide.
