Johan Malmstedt is a doctoral student in media and communication studies with a focus on the digital humanities at the Department of Culture and Media Studies, as well as Humlab, Umeå University. He has a background in history of ideas as well as digital humanities, and is interested in the relationship between audiovisual media and thought. Sound archives – both as a source of knowledge and as a historical phenomenon – are the focus of his dissertation, which aims to map audio reproduction media and audiovisual documents during Swedish modernity, including how to explore and analyze these materials as sonic information carriers.
