I am a historian who specialises in cultural historical dimensions of the 18th century, especially emotions and their relation to status and gender.
I am currently involved in the project “Emotions in 18th-century Everyday Life: Class, Gender, and Godliness in Pehr Stenberg’s Autobiography”, started in January of 2019.
This project focuses on a 5 000 page manuscript by a farmer’s son named Pehr Stenberg (1758-1824), who after begging for his tuition was given the opportunity to study to become a priest. Written with explicit intent to record his innermost thoughts and feeling, this document gives a unique insight into the emotional life of a man from the peasant class attempting to rise through the ranks of 18th-century Swedish society.
My current research focuses mainly on dimensions of love within this material.
