Research: Programmed death of xylem elements
The lifetime of xylem elements affects wood properties of trees by having an impact on the extent of lignocellulose accumulation into the cell walls. The goal of my research is to identify parts of the molecular machinery, including nucleases, proteases and novel components, that control the lifetime of xylem elements using both Arabidopsis thaliana and Populus trees.
