Associate professor (Sw: docent) in mathematics education with research interests regarding language, communication and mathematics learning/teaching.
I am associate professor (Sw: docent) and my main research interest is the relation between language and mathematics in relation to mathematics teaching and learning, for example, the relation between reading and solving mathematics tasks. In particular, I am interested in students' reading of symbols and the role of argumentation in mathematics learning.
Most of my research is conducted in collaboration with Magnus Österholm and together we lead the research group "Language and communication" within UMERC. We currently work with one large research projects financed by the Swedish Research Council and another by Wallenberg (see more under Research above).
At the moment I supervise one phd student, Muhammad Zuhair Zahid, at my own department. Previously I have supervised Ulrika Wikström Hultdin, Anders Hofverberg, Cecilie Carlsen Bach, Frithjof Theens, Monica Egelström, Maria Lindfors, Maria Kenneman, Anneli Dyrvold, and Björn Palmberg. I am a member of the editorial board for the nordic mathematics education research journal NOMAD (http://www.ncm.gu.se/node/492) and the International Journal of Mathematics and Science Education.
