What makes a tree a tree? To answer that, my research intends to outline genetic network models from representative angiosperm and gymnosperm species and compare gene regulation for wood development between those lineages. Multiple transcriptomic and genomic analysis techniques will be applied in representative tree species samples, such as ATAC-sequencing, Hi-C, RNA-sequencing and DAP-sequencing.
The second part of the research focus on bioinformatic analysis and experimental validation. The data obtained from the experiments will be used to perform comparative genomics and to infer regulatory networks by integrating expression and chromatin profiles.
The resulting genetic networks from each species will then be compared to identify both conserved and diverged regulatory mechanisms across the evolutionary history of tree development.
My background is in functional plant genomics and plant physiology.
