Research interests
Local and regional government, politics of aging and civil society organizations.
Firstly, local and regional government includes several subtopics such as marketization in the local welfare municipality; central-local government relations, the debate and process on creating larger regions in Sweden; local democracy in constitutional policy; and the role played by negotiated agreements within Swedish health care. What do new modes of governing with the markets as a model imply for local democracy? How has central-local government relations developed in the country and what is the role played by local government associations in this respect? How has the debate on regions developed in the country and what is the role played by different stakeholders such as parties and organized interests? How has local government and the principle of local self-government developed in the Swedish constitution? Which are the implications of negotiated agreements within health care for local self-government?
Secondly, 'the politics of aging' includes several subtopics such as public policy targeting older people, participation and representation of older people in politics and society and the role played by organized interests. Among the subtopics being dealt with here is the role played by organizations for older people in the shaping of welfare policy in Sweden (i.e. public pensions, housing allowance and elderly care).
Thirdly, research on civil society organizations has, among other things, touched on the issue of organizations and active citizenship. What does active citizenship imply for the future of civil society? Research on civil society organizations has also touched on the issue of marketization and its implications for civil society's participation and influence in decision-making processes.
