Senior Professor of Environmental Medicine
Bertil Forsberg is a senior professor of environmental medicine at Sustainable Health. He is an expert on the health effects of air pollution and has, in several periods, served as an advisor to the WHO. His air pollution research covers traffic emissions including exhaust fumes and road dust, wood smoke, forest fire smoke, etc. The effects studied range from pregnancy impacts to dementia, with many studies on respiratory diseases and mortality. Improving methods for health impact assessments is a special interest, with development assignments from several authorities. Bertil Forsberg also conducts research on the health effects of climate change and extreme weather. Bertil Forsberg is a co-author of more than 300 scientific articles that have been cited nearly 40,000 times, and he has an h-index of 99 (Google Scholar, March 2024). In the 2nd edition of Research.com's ranking of researchers in the medical field based on their Discipline H-index (December 2022), Bertil Forsberg was ranked as number 5 at Umeå University.
