Background
I defended my thesis in 2003 on musicians' work environment and health. Between 2005-06 I was a post-doctoral fellow in music medicine at the Texas Center for Music & Medicine, University of North Texas, Denton, USA. I became an associate professor of physiotherapy in 2010 and am a specialist in ergonomics. Previously, I have worked clinically in primary care, as an occupational physiotherapist in Skellefteå municipality and as an ergonomist at the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Clinic, Norrland University Hospital, Umeå.
Teaching
I teach at undergraduate and advanced level, primarily in physiotherapy, and I am appointed excellent teacher by the Board for Higher Education Pedagogical Merit, Umeå University. My teaching is about long-term pain, psychosomatics, stress, cognitive behavioral approach, ergonomics, work environment and health. I also teach qualitative research methods and supervise students in essays at undergraduate and advanced level.
Research
My research is mainly about long-term pain in adults and children, work environment, ergonomics and stress in combination with a gender perspective. I have been the main supervisor for two PhD students and co-supervisor for two PhD students. I am currently co-supervisor of a PhD student at Åbo Akademi University, Vaasa, Finland, in a project on sustainable working life.
Internationalization
On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine, I work with internationalization in education. I am an international contact person at the physiotherapist education, vice chairman of the Council for the Internationalization of Education (RIU) and monitor internationalization in the Education Strategy Board. For short periods I have taught at the physiotherapist courses in Moshi, Tanzania and Coimbra, Portugal and been a guest teacher at Western University, London, Ontario, Canada. In the fall of 2021, I was a visiting professor at the physiotherapist education at Ghent University, Ghent, Belgium.
