I am researching neutrophils, which are part of the innate immune system. My focus is on how the function of neutrophils is affected by treatments relevant to hematological diseases. Many of the chemotherapy treatments administered to patients with blood disorders impact bone marrow function, causing the neutrophil count in the blood to decrease. This makes patients more susceptible to infections. Therefore, we want to investigate whether the function of neutrophils is also affected by these treatments, as it is crucial to assess how susceptible patients are to infections during ongoing treatment. I also have a project where I examine the interaction between neutrophils, breast cancer cells, and supporting tissue (fibroblasts) to better understand how neutrophils influence the microenvironment of tumors.
I am a specialist physician in internal medicine and hematology, working as a senior consultant at the medical clinic in Örnsköldsvik. I am also employed as a doctoral student in clinical microbiology. My main supervisor for my doctoral project is Constantin Urban.
