Anna-Maria Hällgren earned her doctorate in art history from Stockholm University in 2013. Following her postdoc research at Stockholm University, she has been a visiting fellow at MACBA in Barcelona and has held various academic positions at Stockholm University, Södertörn University, and Uppsala University.
Currently, Hällgren is a lecturer in art history at the Department of Creative Studies. Her research focuses primarily on visual culture studies and environmental humanities, with a particular emphasis on the period around the turn of the 20th century. In addition to her scholarly publications — most recently as co-editor of the anthologies Visuella kulturstudier, together with Professor Anna Näslund, and Ekologisk konstvetenskap, together with Professor Dan Karlholm — she has also authored catalog essays and other texts aimed at a broader audience.
Her current research project, Unearthing Aesthetics: Natural Resources, Art, and Visual Culture, is funded by the Swedish Research Council
